*  The USAToday reports that elite status is easier than ever to earn at some airlines. "Continental has joined American and United in offering passengers a faster way to earn elite frequent-flier status. Each of those three are offering promotions that let customers earn double 'elite-qualifying miles' – or EQMs, for short. EQMs are miles that count toward earning "elite" frequent-flier status.  Most traditional airlines offer elite status to passengers who fly a minimum of 25,000 miles in a calendar year.  Higher elite status is awarded to customers who hit higher thresholds. Continental, for example, awards "silver" status to those who fly 25,000 miles in a year, "gold" status to those who fly 50,000 miles in a year and "platinum" status to those who fly 75,000 miles or more in a year. Fliers get an increasing level of perks and benefits at each tier.  As for the promotions, by doubling the miles that count toward elite status, a customer can earn elite status twice as fast."
