Southern Cross Travel Insurance tops Australian survey | BUSINESS News
Southern Cross Travel Insurance has come out top in a major new travel insurance survey, just six months after moving into the Australian market.
The company's Australian arm has been given five stars by Canstar Cannex, a financial insurance and banking consumer rating agency, which researched 44 different companies and 111 products.
Southern Cross CEO Craig Morrison says any of the stars can be used as a consumer rating guide for product excellence and product quality.
"We are very, very excited to win the award. We didn't even know they were doing the research on us."
Southern Cross is run completely out of New Zealand, and is primarily an online service.
"The model on the internet works very, very well in New Zealand. So instead of trying to grow by doing something different, we decided to grow with a model that we knew was successful and go to a market close by that's four times the size of New Zealand."
"In fact in Australia, it's (the model) virtually paperless. So we don't even ask for the customer's mailing address, it's all done by email and all electronically."
Morrison says after 26 years in New Zealand the company has started to eye up other markets.
"In New Zealand our calculations show the market to be flat but in Australia the market is growing quite healthily. So we are very excited about the fact that there's more and it's growing over there.
"We're only in month six in Australia but so far it's going very well. The model works pretty good depending on which territory or country we look at."
